Random Response Analysis

Overview

Random analysis determines the technique to calculate the response of the structure due to non-deterministic loads based on probability and statistics.

In a random vibration study, loads are described statistically by power spectral density (PSD) functions.

PSD function is a statistical representation of the load time history.

Result Types

The solution of random vibration problems is formulated in the frequency domain.

After running the study, you can plot root-mean-square (RMS) values, or PSD results of stresses, displacements, velocities, etc. at a specific frequency, or graph results at specific locations versus frequency values. 

Application Examples

Some dynamic excitations cannot be categorized as simply frequency dependent or time dependent. Input fits no simple pattern is thus considered as random.

Random response analysis is frequently used to analyze problems from automotive, aerospace, electronic equipment, defense and other industries.
